Be familiar with the material you will be working on before using tutoring. Come with a list of questions.
Raise your hand to get a tutor’s attention if you have a question
Share with your tutor any “preferred way of learning” that you may possess.
Recognize that this is a Tutoring program based on consistency. Tutors time fill up quickly.
Try to sit with other students who are taking the same class so that you can share ideas.
Get to know your instructor and teaching assistant and visit them during office hours. They are always your best resource for class information.
Become aware of other resources on campus for help that are available to help you. Ask the academic advisor for a list of those resources.
Do not ask your tutor to give you the answers or to do your homework for you. They are here to help you learn how to do the work yourself. Learning is a process. If you do not do your own homework, you want learn.
Don’t wait until the day before or day of a quiz or test to get help. Help may not be available. Learning takes time, effort and planning.
Don’t come to tutoring unprepared. You should have already covered the material and tried to work through any problems.
