STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS
2008-2009
1. Advise the Department Administration on matters involving the welfare of the athletes in the program.
2. Provide student-athlete input to the Administration on program priorities and needed improvements within the program.
3. Serve as a forum for the sharing and discussion of concepts and issues in athletics.
4. Provide a channel for student-athletes communication and opinions relevant to any U of A position on issues and proposals by conference, regional and/or national governing bodies.
5. To actively encourage involvement of student-athletes in campus and community events.
6. To help design and implement programs which will encourage academic achievement, health promotion, social responsibility and informed decision-making.
7. To foster a sense of shared pride in being a University of Arizona student and a Wildcat student-athlete.
8. Serve as liaison to various C.A.T.S. and ICA areas when asked.
9. Other purposes as defined by the SAAC.
The SAAC shall be comprised of one representative from each varsity team sponsored by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics except football and baseball which have two representatives. The Director of Athletics and the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Programs and Services (SWA) shall serve as ex-officio member of the Board. The Director of C.A.T.S. Life Skills shall serve as the ICA staff liaison.
Representatives’ terms shall be no more than two years. Representatives shall be elected by the SAAC to serve as President and Vice President of the board. The President shall alternate each year between men and women or if co-presidents/vice presidents are elected one shall be male and one female.
A representative must be in good academic standing and must attend every meeting. Board members are required to send a team member substitute if unavailable to attend. Two unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the board.
1. Representatives shall provide communication to their respective team concerning SAAC meetings.
2. Representatives shall serve as a voice for all Wildcat athletes and shall provide the Administration with as many diverse views as are represented on their respective teams.
3. Provide for selection of or serve as a student representative to other University committees as requested.
4. Assist with the planning and organizing of the Senior Awards Banquet at the end of the year.
5. Additional duties agreed upon by the Board.
Meetings are generally held on a monthly basis.
Guests may be invited to meet with the SAAC when appropriate.
