Learning Strategies:

Active Learning:

 ́Learning is not a spectator sport ? be an active learnerî

 For each class use the three main resources:
1. Syllabus ? help you know what is important to the professor ? ́your road map through the courseî
2. Book ? survey, find three to five major ideas, look up unknown vocabulary, review, review, review
3. Professor ? be prepared for lecture by reading assignments before class, listen for three to five major ideas in lecture, ask questions when you do not understand, review, review, review

Text Reading:

 Survey (table of contents, headings, charts, pictures)
 Activate your mind, think about what you already know about the topic, what is important to learn
 Read the summary
 Look at the vocabulary listed or words bold faced
 Form questions

Read to Answer Questions ; Use your book:

 Highlight or underline
 Write answers and make comments in margins
 Take book notes
 Outline your chapter

Recite

 In your mind
 Out loud
 To a friend or in a small group
