Math Readiness Test - All incoming student-athletes are required to take a math placement test. This test will determine the  math class for which you are eligible. It is extremely important to do as well on this test as possible so you do not lose time in completing the math requirement for your major. To better be prepared please refer to this link for practice questions, topics that will be covered and much more. For current student-athletes ask your counselor about the review sessions they offer if you want to retake the test.

Directed Study Program - The Directed Study Program is designed to enhance learning and success for all student athletes at every level of academic achievement. DSP focuses on the academic skill areas that are necessary to be successful in college. Those areas include time management, reading, writing, note taking, and study/test strategies.

An initial assessment of reading, writing, learning style and study strategies is conducted during orientation for all new student athletes, and an individualized academic instructional plan is created for each student athlete. This plan indicates each student’s strengths and weaknesses, learning style, information regarding attitude and motivation, as well as the areas in need of academic skill development.

Each student athlete in DSP meets at least two times a week with a strategy tutor to review strategies on time management, organization, note taking, study/test strategies, memory, and writing strategies. Relevant information, such as grades on tests, assignments, and papers is also documented. Additionally, the strategy tutor collects information related to study schedules, time usage, and other learning characteristics. This program is unique in that each student athlete has an individualized academic program that is designed to strengthen his or her foundational academic skills and promotes success in the classroom.
